Took this photo just as the tide started to flow in Blakeney Cut. A beautiful, calm evening after this week’s winds, with a huge moon rising in the east.

One of those days when the village is bathed in sunshine, while the rain squalls out at sea, throwing out rainbows across the horizon.

There’s a wonderful American tradition of holding back on Christmas decorations until the Thanksgiving holiday has passed at the end of the November. After we’d dressed the tree, I couldn’t help notice how a new mirror in the sitting room caught the hundreds of coloured lights and kept them dancing in its crystal refractions.

I could hear the rain lashing on the windows in the early hours of the morning. It was still early when it stopped and, wide awake with jet lag, I ventured out before anyone else was up in search of coffee. I walked to the water and found the Hudson was blustering with a strong breeze. Turning back towards the warmth of a waiting café, these cobbles – shining from the storm in the night – caught my eye down a little alleyway.
